We have created a new version of our stacked-box hive in preparation for the 2026 Japanese honeybee swarming season. The time for Japanese honeybee swarming is fast approaching once again. Swarming typically begins between late March and May. The stacked-box hive we have been using for the past three years was designed with a slightly larger inner diameter. However, during actual nesting, the hive rarely expanded to its full cross-sectional area, leading to a tendency for excess space to form. So this time, we are creating a new stacked-box hive with the following goals: ✔ Reduced the inner diameter of the stacked-box hive ✔ Improved thermal insulation ✔ Easier management ✔ Lighter weight for portability We hope this will be helpful for those aiming to naturally colonize Japanese honeybees, those considering swarming strategies, and those building their own stacked-box hives.
