THE ACS - Using an Approved Minimum Equipment List (PA.I.B.K3b) If you're at a flight school flying single engine airplanes, odds are you are not using an MEL yet. Although the information about the MEL may feel trivial to learn so early as a student pilot, it is included in the ACS, and therefore because you could get asked about it, it's best you at least have a foundational understanding of what MEL's are. This is one subject I found hard to memorize as a student pilot, if you feel the same just remember, almost all the info you need regarding INOP equipment/ equipment lists can be found in 91.213, AC 91-67 and theres even a PHAK chapter on it.
