I enjoyed staying at the Mitsui Garden Hotel Kyoto Kawaramachi Jokyoji. It has a great location in central Kyoto, within walking distance of several metro stations. You can also walk to the Kamo River and the popular Southern Higashiyama area, where many of the famous sites of Kyoto are, including Kiyomizudera, Ninenzaka, Sanenzaka, Gion and many other Japanese temples and shrines. The hotel's affordable and very stylish, with traditional Japanese details. It's on the site of Jokyo-ji, a small temple that's right outside. The hotel also has an onsen - a public shared bath (not natural hot spring water, but you get a similar experience to an onsen) that guests can use for free.
