I Finally Found a Stain That Actually Works on Orange Pine, Every Time!

4 Step Paint + Stain Finish: Make Pine Look Like High-End Wood Would you believe this is just knotty pine? If you've ever struggled with orangey undertones, blotchy stain results or projects with more than 1 type of wood taking stain differently, this 4-step finish will save you so much frustration. In this tutorial, I’m walking you through a simple paint + stain method that transforms basic boards into rich, layered, high-end looking wood. It works beautifully on raised grain projects (see my tutorial linked below) or completely flat surfaces perfect for benches, faux beams, shelves, built-ins, and more. This is the exact finish I used on my locker bench and laundry cabinet racks, and BEAMS where someone asked if I swapped out my budget pine for real oak! Nope.
