The DEC Mini: MiSTer Edition

I fondly remember walking through the Digital Equipment Corporation office back in the late 90s. To this day, I still remember taking in the sights and smells of decommissioned DEC hardware, piled up in fenced cages in the basement. So when I came across Lorenzo Herrera’s DEC Mini build, I immediately knew that I had to build one. The DEC Mini is a modern take on Digital’s VT-100 terminal design. Back in the day, these systems were used to interface with minicomputers, allowing its user to edit files, write BASIC programs, and even play games. The DEC Mini, however, takes it a step further, and builds in a single board computer, to make it a fully functional PC. But if you’ve been around the channel for a while, then you can probably guess what I’m doing to do this instead. I’ve modified Lorenzo’s design to accommodate Retro Remake’s MiSTer Pi. In this video, I’ll take you through the end-to-end build of my remix on the DEC Mini. A special thanks 🙏 to Lorenzo Herrera for sharing this great design, and providing some assets for me to use in this video. You can find Lorenzo on X at https://x.com/lorenzoherrera.
