Nursing Guidelines for Hemodialysis Complications – BCKW (2021)
Alison McNary and Julia Caryk present their talk, “Nursing Management of Complications during Hemodialysis Guideline: Spotlight on a newly developed provincial clinical resource,” as part of BC Kidney Week (2021). They begin with some background information on the BC Renal Educators group and why they decided to undertake the Hemodialysis Complications project to develop new guidelines. They provide an overview of content and scope of the project and the resulting guidelines, which address everything from common symptoms (e.g., cramping) to more serious complications (e.g., air in bloodline, anaphylaxis, cardiac arrest, etc.). They dedicate some time to focus on venous access disconnection/dislodgement, before discussing next steps for their team and taking questions from the audience.
