You can have obedience and try hard to be an "ideal Christian" - take the teachings of Jesus Christ and fulfill them exactly. But at the same time, a person understands: inside, in my heart, I am not like that, I do not have love. And the Apostle Paul writes well about this state in his Epistle to the Romans: "I find then a law, that when I want to do good, evil is present with me..." (Rom. 7:21-23). To be obedient to the truth through the Spirit, you need to be born of God, having a pure heart and sincere faith, because the love of God, the Holy Spirit, dwells in a contrite heart. And this is where the secret of eternal life is hidden, which is accomplished in man by faith in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Man was born of God, Christ, the life-giving Spirit, entered into him, Who teaches man to live from within (“the anointing teaches you all things…”: 1 John 2:27). But in the soul and body of man, old feelings, ways of thinking, habits are still preserved, that is, he continues to act according to previous life experience. Therefore, in order to grow in love, in purity (“let the holy be holy still”: Rev. 22:11), one must be obedient precisely to the truth, to the Spirit, Who animates: “If ye died with Christ, seek the things that are above” (Col. 3:2-3). Only a new creation is capable of hearing the Spirit of God in itself, of acting according to the Spirit and through Him of purifying its soul: “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God” (Rom. 8:14).
