10 Rules for SUBJECT VERB AGREEMENT | Free Practice | English Grammar @englishspeaking360 Welcome to our English Grammar video on the 10 most important rules for difficult cases of Subject-Verb Agreement! 📝 Understanding subject-verb agreement is key to mastering English. In this video, we'll go through the top 10 rules to help you understand how to make sure your subjects and verbs match correctly. Here’s what we cover: 1. Subjects with "and" - Usually take a plural verb unless they refer to a single entity. 2. Subjects with "either...or" and "neither...nor" - The verb agrees with the subject closer to it. 3. Nouns ending in "s" - Some nouns look plural but are actually singular. Learn which ones! 4. Time, money, distance, weight, etc. - These are treated as singular, even if they look plural. 5. Nouns that refer to many items - Sometimes these require a singular verb. We'll show you when! 6. Fractions and percentages - The verb should agree with the noun that follows. 7. Conjunctions like "as well as," "together with," and "along with" - The verb matches the main subject, not the additional phrase. 8. Indefinite pronouns like "everyone," "somebody," "nothing" - Always use a singular verb with these pronouns. 9. Quantifiers like "all," "some," "most," "a lot," "plenty," "any," "none," "more," "enough" - The verb agrees with the noun that follows the quantifier. 10. Expressions with "ONE" - For phrases like "one of the," "one of the only," and "more than one," use a singular verb. ***Key exception to watch for: If "one of the" is followed by a relative clause with who/that/which, the verb inside that clause is usually plural because it agrees with the plural noun before it.
