New Horizons Digital Art and AI

The May 2026 New Horizons networking event organised by Arts Derbyshire focused on Digital Art & AI, with a thought-provoking panel discussion exploring how artificial intelligence is reshaping creativity in Derbyshire and beyond. Chaired by digital arts specialist John Whall (www.johnwhall.art) the event invited audiences to consider both the opportunities and challenges posed by this rapidly evolving technology. The session explored key themes that frame the debate: the creative possibilities of AI as a tool, subject and collaborator, from new forms of artistic expression to collaborative practice, emerging young creatives and audience engagement; the risks and ethical dilemmas, including authenticity, and bias; and the wider sector impact. With contributions from an expert panel including Rob Vale (Illuminos - www.illuminos.co.uk) and Peter Bonnell (DASH Arts - www.dasharts.org), the discussion was designed to ignite the conversations of the role AI and digital art can play in rural arts practice.
