‘Volunteer in Education Governance’ webinar with Boards for Education

As part of Oxford Brookes University's widening participation and social responsibility strategy, we are working to increase the number of University staff and alumni serving as governors in local schools. One of the biggest challenges currently facing schools in the UK is a shortage of suitably skilled volunteers on governing boards, with volunteer school governors playing a crucial role in raising educational standards. We are working with Boards for Education (formerly know as Governors for Schools), a national organisation committed to helping ensure all pupils get an excellent education through effective governance. Volunteering in education governance is a fantastic way to broaden your skills and network, build up board-level experience, and help to set the strategic direction of an education setting. It’s a chance to see the impact of your decisions first-hand. This webinar highlights the roles available (including Governor, Trustee and Chair), discuss the core responsibilities governance volunteers have, and detail the next steps you need to take to get involved.
