Television presenter, philosopher, and theologian Gert Scobel began meditating at the age of 16. He has been captivated by it ever since. He now participates in panel discussions with the Dalai Lama and writes books about the positive effects that conscious breathing and an empty mind can have on people. He also appears on his eponymous TV show, where he talks with Buddhist monks about the connection between meditation and creativity. However, Scobel sees dangers and problems in the current mindfulness trend, the easy accessibility, and the enormous commercialization of meditation techniques. What does mindfulness have to do with meditation? Why are such Far Eastern methods so popular? What does enlightenment or awakening actually mean? And how clear is a mind that has been trained through meditation for decades? Olivia Röllin discusses these questions with Gert Scobel.
