Synopsis: Debby Cox, a veterinary nurse from Australia, works at Entebbe Zoo, Uganda. She works there with a colony of orphan chimps, saved from poachers who sell them off on the black market. The living conditions of the chimps however are terrible - chimps can end up spending their whole lives in a small cage, never living in a natural environment. Debbie wants to change that. While semi-wild santuaries do exist, Debbie wants more to be built, and eventually aims to start introducing stolen chimps back into the wild. However, a location, and the $100,000 needed to build the santuary, are yet to be found. ABC Australia speaks to Debbie, as well as a zoologist studying chimps who continue to live in the Ugandan wild.
