What we thought would be straightforward quickly turned into one of the most challenging parts of the project so far, especially working with a fabric aircraft and the Ranthane paint system. Thanks to the incredibly detailed manuals from Consolidated Aircraft Coatings, and guidance from Vic, along with our A&P friends Stu and Bruce, we were able to learn the correct process and push forward the right way. One of the highlights of this episode was traveling to Consolidated and working directly with Austin Jones and Clarissa Sanchez to properly spec and color match the paint to the airplane. Seeing that process firsthand gave us a whole new appreciation for what goes into aircraft finishing. From there, it was straight into the hangar—where 12-hour days turned into multiple all-nighters as we prepped, sprayed interior trim pieces, and laid down the white base coat on the exterior. Like every step in this series, things didn’t go perfectly, but we worked through the challenges and made serious progress. We also discovered the AeroCreeper, which ended up being a complete game changer during the paint process.
