Building a Hidden Sanctuary at Our 200 Sq Ft Cabin in the Woods
We are carving a new footpath to the massive old-growth trees behind our family’s 200 sq ft home, but of course a trail needs a place to sit and enjoy freshly baked cookies! To finish the space, we carried a weathered cedar bench over a mile through the deep woods. After a quick morning coffee at the cabin, we break out the Pulaski to cut a completely new footpath through the brush. To create the perfect resting spot under the old-growth Douglas firs, our neighbors allowed us to adopt an old, graying cedar bench. Getting it home was an uncomfortable one-mile carry over the trails, but it was incredibly worth it. Watch as we restore, sand, and stain the weathered wood to give it a second life. Once the hard work is done, we spend an afternoon foraging for wild trailing blackberries on the vast public lands that surround our property. Back in the tiny cabin’s kitchen, our family turns the harvest into amazing homemade jam-filled cookies, which we take down our newly finished secret trail to enjoy in the cool shade of old growth Douglas firs. On Balancing Wild, we share a glimpse of what minimalist family life and simple living in a tiny house in the deep woods actually looks like for us. We are finding our own path in the forest, and we're glad you're here to join us.
