A Hamas official, who requested anonymity, also confirmed that Ankara is among the mediators but declined to elaborate on the negotiations, stating that they address a sensitive security issue. Meanwhile, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu did not respond to a request for comment on Turkey's role. Last week, US envoy Steve Wittkopf indicated that resolving the issue would be a test of future steps in the broader ceasefire plan. He added that it could be resolved by providing them with safe passage to Hamas-controlled areas in Gaza. US envoy Jared Kushner also discussed the issue of those trapped in Rafah and the next phase of the US plan for Gaza with Netanyahu. Two sources also stated last week that Hamas fighters trapped in the Israeli-controlled area of ​​Rafah were prepared to surrender their weapons in exchange for passage to other areas of the Gaza Strip.
