Melody's Echo Chamber: Live From KCRW HQ

Few musicians can fully realize their works as well as Melody’s Echo Chamber, the eponymous project of French musician Melody Prochet. Longtime fans, of which she has many at KCRW, recognize her epochal contributions to the early-2010s psychedelic renaissance (spoiler: she does perform “I Follow You” in this brand-new session). In the time since, Prochet has delivered on the promise of the era’s burgeoning icons by consistently releasing lush, thought-provoking, and singular records. Her newest release, Unclouded, provides no exception. Saturated drums, sweeping strings, chorused guitars, and cool vocals prevail in the record’s live recreation at KCRW’s Annenberg Performance Studio. Among a stacked cast of impressive musicians, special flowers should be awarded to drummer Malcolm Catto (notable himself for other projects like The Heliocentrics). On track “Burning Man,” Catto channels the driving Can-like rhythms that puts Melody’s Echo Chamber in conversation with generations of experimental rockers. Prochet’s voice remains delicate and entrancing as ever. There is no attempt to substitute clever songwriting, heartfelt lyrics, or musical talent. There is no gimmick. There is only Melody’s Echo Chamber and 23 minutes of high-performance. 00:00 Eyes Closed 03:52 The House That Doesn’t Exist 06:25 Childhood Dream 09:37 Burning Man 14:00 Into Shadows 16:54 Daisy 20:08 I Follow You Band Credits: Melody Prochet, Vocals & Synthesizers Jay Pich, Guitar Reine Fiske, Guitar Benjamin Gilbert, Bass Malcolm Catto, Drums KCRW Credits: Producer, Adelaide Sandstrom Digital Producer, Farin Hoover Jack Arthur, Lighting Designer Katie Gilchrest, Lead Recording Engineer Nick Lampone, A2 / FOH Chandler Martin, A2 / FOH Beau Delmore, Video Director Luis Peña, Camera Op 1 Tohar Zamir, Social Media Manager Alejandro Cohen, KCRW Music Director Ariana Morgenstern, Executive Producer Enjoy this session?
