I Forgot the Tarp... Then It Rained All Night

Sometimes the best camping trips don't go according to plan. For this trip I stayed close to home and headed out to my girlfriend's property for a relaxing night of truck camping. Knowing thunderstorms were in the forecast, I packed my new tarp and extension poles so I could build a canopy off the truck and stay dry during the rain. There was just one problem... I forgot to bring it. What followed was an evening of off-and-on thunderstorms, waiting out rain showers in the truck, and making the best of a soggy situation. Between storms we managed to get a fire going and start dinner, only to get chased by another round of rain before it was finished. Eventually I gave up trying to stay dry and finished cooking a pepperoni pizza in the pie iron while standing in the rain. Sometimes that's just how camping goes.
