In the years after, 3801 entered preservation. In October 1988 the Flying Scotsman arrived from England and was paired with 3801 for a majority of its year long tour of Australia. In 2007, 3801 was again withdrawn for overhaul. After over a decade 3801 is finally ready to start testing and will soon start taking passengers on heritage tours.
