Speaker: Alison Cariens is the conservation coordinator in the Straus Center for Conservation and Technical Studies. A major aspect of her position involves working closely with the Forbes Pigment Collection, assisting with new additions, cataloging the collection, and managing access, media requests, and tours. Alison received her bachelor’s degree in art history from the University of New Hampshire, with minors in business administration and Italian studies. While her love of art and museums was apparent from a very young age, it was not until she began work with the Forbes Pigment Collection that she discovered a true passion for the building blocks of art: pigments and artists’ materials. This program is hosted by the Monotype Guild of New England. The Monotype Guild of New England is a nonprofit organization of contemporary artists creating unique impressions by working in the medium of monotypes and monoprints. Founded in 1985 by a small group of New England artists, the Guild has curated over one hundred exhibitions and has expanded its membership to include artists from across the United States.
