Launched on 15 April 1999 as ETV Bangla by the ETV Network, it and other ETV-branded GECs were acquired by Viacom18 and rebranded with the Colors brand in 2015. Its competitors include Star Jalsha, Zee Bangla, Aakash Aath and more recently Sun Bangla. For many months since 2020, Colors Bangla did not have any original programming, but only dubbed shows. However, it rebranded on 30 August 2021 and launched new original shows.
