14 | Exploring Our Italian Mountain House - The Very First Jobs Begin
Back home again, we finally share the first moments and first jobs from our two-day stay at our newly purchased mountain property in Italy. We take you on a small tour around the cabins and explore both the inside and outside of the buildings. One of the structures is little more than a ruin, completely covered in ivy. Because we hope to start clearing this area during our next visit, we begin by cutting the thick stems of the ivy so it can slowly die back and reveal the stone walls beneath. We also start exploring the floor in what we call our third cabin. It was covered by a surprising amount of sand and leaves, and we were curious to see what was hiding underneath. We didn't have enough time or tools to clear the entire floor, but we uncovered enough to discover that parts of the old wooden floor are still there. Some sections seem to be in reasonable condition, while others clearly need a lot of work. It will certainly be one of the projects we continue during our next stay. Before leaving, we remain on the property until sunset. We wanted to see where the sun disappears behind the mountains and simply take in the quiet beauty of the place before heading home. Back in Zeeland, work continues on the small house we have been restoring for the past five years. We test-fit the steel shower screen that we welded in our workshop in Antwerp. There is still plenty to do, including painting the frame and ordering the glass, but another small step has been taken. We also spend some time outside, giving our old garden table a fresh look and taking care of a few small jobs around the house. Thank you for following along with us. The next time we return to Italy, the real clearing and exploration of the property can begin. Music: Serge Pavkin Music – Thoughts, Nothern Lands & Your Way
