La città sicura | Le costruzioni e il terremoto: il caso della città di Catania

The initiative by ZammùTv, the University of Catania's web TV channel, aims to launch a series of reflections on earthquake prevention that will reach the majority of citizens from the scientific community. This initial series of talks aims to move the urgent issue of prevention from the confines of specialists to the construction of a shared and collective awareness, which is the only option, the only resource, for addressing risk issues in general, and seismic risk in particular. The talks are delivered by professors from the teaching staff of the Doctoral Program in "Assessment and Mitigation of Urban and Territorial Risks" at the University's Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture, coordinated by Professor Massimo Cuomo, who—uniquely in Italy—addresses the issue with a holistic approach. This attention to seismic risk has its roots in the pioneering studies of Professors Michele Maugeri, Dario Sanfilippo, and Giovanni Campo, founder of the Center for Earthquake Prevention Studies. In his conversation, Professor Ivo Caliò, professor of Building Science, discusses the buildings of the contemporary city, widely considered the safest, highlighting its numerous critical issues, starting with the controversial situation in the capital city of Etna.
