Understanding Autotransformer Winding Resistance

Understanding Autotransformer Winding Resistance Autotransformers are unique transformers with high voltage and low voltage windings electrically and magnetically connected. It is important to understand how to interpret test report data such as winding resistances. You may have an old transformer test report and need per phase winding resistances to perform certain calculations such as GIC. The test report may have high voltage and low voltage terminal-to-terminal winding resistance values. If you copy test report values into your calculation tool, your results will be inaccurate as the terminal-to-terminal values need to be converted to series and common winding resistances for autotransformers. This video shows the conversion of autotransformer winding resistances from terminal-to-terminal to winding resistances and vice versa. The video also goes through an example to help you understand the conversion. Find me on Facebook -   / engineeringsimple
