A New Way To Finally Understand Bebop Enclosures
00:00 intro 00:57 the two 4-note enclosures that encompass all enclosures! 04:43 the 3-note enclosure 05:24 the 2-note enclosure 06:25 explanation & analyzation of example lick using an enclosure 08:34 exercise 1: enclose scale tones of chords in a tune 09:40 exercise 2: enclose all notes of a scale 12:10 demonstration 13:30 using enclosures to "escape" Bebop enclosures stumped me for a while. I used to be confused by how to form them and when to use which one. Once I understood the 4-note enclosure and that there's just two different sets of notes to enclose any given note, it started to click. So in this video I'm taking a backwards approach by explaining the full blown 4-note enclosure first, and then working backward to the 2 note enclosure. I haven't taken this approach before because the 4-note enclosure contains more notes and can be thought of as "harder" for that reason, but I think from and intellectual perspective it could make a lot of sense. As an educator we're always trying to improve our methods and find better ways to transfer information - I think this could be a step in that direction.
