À 15 ans, l’islam m’a structuré. À 21 ans, Spinoza m’a libéré!
In this video, I revisit a pivotal period in my life: my conversion to Islam as a teenager, my practice between 1994 and 2001, and then my gradual departure from this religious framework. I discuss the Islam of the housing projects, the need for norms when growing up without a solid foundation, the role religion played in shaping my personality, but also what ultimately stifled me: the ready-made thinking, the implicit prohibition against doubting, the separation between “us” and “them.” The turning point was my discovery of Spinoza’s Theological-Political Treatise. This book taught me to distinguish between the search for the divine and submission to texts and to men who claim to speak in God’s name. A personal, philosophical, and straightforward video about faith, doubt, freedom of thought, and deconditioning. 00:00 Introduction 01:15 Childhood in foster care and first encounter with Islam 03:33 From 1994 to 2001: Islam in the housing projects 04:43 Why this environment became stifling 07:36 A youth without cultural transmission 09:00 The 50-cent book that changed my life 10:13 Spinoza against monotheisms 17:04 Christianity, civilization, and transmission 23:23 Why I entered and then left Islam 26:16 What Islam gave me at 15 30:31 Being a convert: a second-class brother? 35:20 Norms, ready-made thinking, and spiritual poverty 37:24 Is Islam a sect? 39:15 Reading Recommendations 📚 Books cited or recommended: – Theological-Political Treatise — Spinoza – Ethics — Spinoza – The Spinoza Problem — Irvin Yalom – The Spinoza Miracle — Frédéric Lenoir – Three Daughters of Eve — Elif Shafak – Discourse on the Method — René Descartes 💬 Tell me in the comments: Can we truly believe freely if we don't have the right to doubt? 💡 Support my work and access exclusive content! 👉 On Leetchi: https://www.leetchi.com/fr/c/soutien-... 👉 Support me on Tipeee: https://fr.tipeee.com/cyril-chevrot42 👉 Subscribe to the channel: / @cyrilchevrot 📖 Check out my personal blogs: https://cyrilc42blog.wordpress.com/ https://cyrilchevrot42.wordpress.com/ 📱 Join me on social media: Facebook: Cyril Chevrot Twitter (X): / cyrilc42mobile 🎙️ Listen to my podcast: iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/i...
