And maybe, you're hoping, a wrap on those first trimester symptoms like morning sickness and fatigue. But if you're like most moms, quease subsides and energy pumps up closer to about 16 weeks. In the meantime, hang in there and check in with your provider if your symptoms are severe. And remember the power of sour: When life gives you morning sickness, try a twist of lemon. And speaking of lemons, your baby is now about the size of one, measuring 3 inches long and growing at lightning speed. What's the rush? Well, the body has to catch up to that head, which still makes up half of your baby's crown-to-rump length, and catch up it will. At birth, your baby will be one quarter head and three quarters body. More big progress this week, the intestines complete their move out of their storage space in the umbilical cord and into their permanent home in baby's belly. To nourish that tiny tummy and the other systems and organs that are growing rapidly, baby's lifeline, the placenta, is expanding. It weighs around 2 ounces now, but at delivery it'll tip the scales at about 24 ounces. There are plenty of subtle changes happening this week as well. Fingernails and downy hair on the body continue to make their appearance. Baby's bones continue to harden. The muscles of the chest wall are starting to develop, along with the vocal cords, gearing up for that very anticipated first cry.
