This year saw the collision of a passenger plane and a Self-Defense Force plane over Shizukuishi, Iwate Prefecture, the intensification of the Narita Airport Struggle, the serial murder of eight women by death row inmate Okubo Kiyomoto, and the huge bowling boom. "I was born this year," says actress Tomoko Nakajima. "From the North Country" aired after filming of all 24 episodes was completed. Nakajima spoke about the strangely lively conversation she had during the final audition with lead actor Kunie Tanaka and his brother, Hidetaka Yoshioka, as well as the words of screenwriter So Kuramoto, and the scenes that come to mind when she thinks of the Showa era.
