Ghost of Kyoto: Shamisen Psychedelia & Trip-Hop Dub with Rock Noir

Vol. 21, fam. This one's a little different. I've always played around with shamisen in my mixes. Just love the sound of it, I reckon you know by now already :). The way it cuts through a slow trip-hop beat and a dub bassline. Tarantino with chopsticks, kind of. So this time I leaned all the way in. Made it a whole Japanese psychedelic thing. Best played loud on a long drive, while running, or with eyes closed letting it pull you somewhere. It starts lighter, happier. Hypnotic shamisen trip hop, lounge-y, kind of Japanese vibes - sake on the rocks, or hot tea and paper lanterns swaying. In the second half of that mix we find more psychedelic rock noir meets Japan, more dreamy, more shadows. By the end it pushes more into electronic territory, but still that slow trip-hop pulse underneath. So it's a journey. You most likely don't know: I always make like 3+ versions of every song before I pick one for the releases. The other versions are usually so cool, just sitting in a folder doing nothing, and its a shame that you don't hear them. For this volume I went back through and pulled a bunch of my favorite vocal samples I'd been using and saving up. So this one's kinda behind the scenes. Lately I've been deep in 60s/70s psychedelic rock and I think I just needed to do something different for a sec. After this volume I'm probably going heavier - i am not sure yet, maybe stoner rock direction, maybe. We'll see where it takes me. AI generated. Also good for late-night drives, painting sessions, creative flow, or just drifting.
