Marianne Faithfull - Guilt
'Broken English', the 7th studio album by Marianne Faithfull, released in november 1979. It was the first release since 1967. 'Broken English' was the major comeback for Marianne after years of drug abuse, homelessness and suffering from anorexia. . She described the album as her masterpiece. The song 'Guilt' reflects on addiction and the way people lie about their habits. 'Guilt' is not only a song but it is the central theme on the whole album. Reviewers describe 'Broken English' as a personal and powerful work. It is often seen as autobiographical and her own struggles with heroin addiction. Thanks to Marianne's well known destroyed voice the song gets an emotional weight which is much praised. Her sandpapery voice is perfect for this dark subject matter. 'Guilt' is one of my favorites songs.
