Following the video "All My Bikes," many of you, to my surprise, asked me about the differences between Enduro and Motocross bikes... which are many more than you probably think! That way, everything will be clear. But to "understand" the bikes, you have to "understand" the different categories. Motocross bikes are pure competition, as pure as a track bike, because they also race on closed circuits. This is important because, aside from the rider's requirements, motocross bikes can't be registered, so they're noisier, don't have lights, turn signals, or a license plate, or, as the saying goes, "hardware," which is heavy and messy. An Enduro bike can't just be registered, it must be. This means it needs a proper muffler, a transmission that allows it to ride on roads, fenders worthy of the name, lights, turn signals, mirrors, and all that. And, above all, an Enduro bike has to be more "flexible" because it has to be able to ride on roads while also being able to climb a trail. I'll make one caveat. Some people, like me, remove elements like mirrors and turn signals. It's a bad idea... whether you're on roads or streets. And if you get stopped, you'll be in for a big ride because, for starters, without those elements, you won't pass the MOT. In my case, I do it for two reasons: I competed on this bike, and because I don't touch the asphalt at all. That said, let's leave the regulatory issues aside and get to the technical side, which is cooler. Frame: Stiffness or Flexibility? Dirt bike frames aren't necessarily made of aluminum, while enduro frames are made of tubes. But motocross frames are stiffer… Suspension: Jumps or Trials? A motocross bike does big jumps, and an enduro bike does trials. Engine. On the track, you know what's coming; on the trails, you improvise. The engine has high revs and the engine has low revs. Gear Shifting: Open or Closed? Enduro bikes have open gears, while motocross bikes have open gears. Protection: The "tank bike." In motocross, except for falls, the bike doesn't suffer… in Enduro, having a nice bike is almost impossible. Enduro bikes have a lot of protection: crankcase, hands, cable shifter, exhaust, sprocket, etc. Tires: Air or mousse. A puncture is a big problem in enduro. Conclusion.
