Mucuri, cidade que sumia a cada maré: perdas, resistência e reconstrução

For more than two decades, the coastal city of Mucuri, in the extreme south of Bahia, has lived a silent drama in the face of the relentless advance of the sea. Since 1999, coastal erosion has transformed the landscape and daily life of the city, destroying entire streets and swallowing hundreds of properties - including tents, inns, restaurants, hotels and residences - until 2020, when the situation reached its peak of devastation. The once touristy coastline has turned into ruins. Only in 2021 has Mucuri begun a process of urban and environmental reconstruction, gradually recovering its strip of sand, restructuring the boardwalk and resuming its tourist vocation, after years of irreparable losses caused by the force of the ocean.
