His history is told in the Mahabharata. According to the Mahabharata, Hidimba was a rakshasi, or female demon, who fell in love with #Bhima and helped him and his brothers escape from the forest where they were living in exile. Bhima reciprocated her feelings and agreed to marry her, and they had a son named Ghatotkacha. Ghatotkacha inherited many of his mother's demonic powers, including the ability to change his shape and size at will. He was also a skilled warrior and fought alongside his father and uncles in the great war described in the Mahabharata. Ghatotkacha's most famous exploit in the war was his use of a powerful weapon called the Brahmastra. When the #Kaurava army deployed a deadly weapon called the Narayanastra against the Pandavas, #Arjuna was forced to use the Brahmastra to counter it. However, Krishna warned him that using the #Brahmastra would cause massive destruction, and so Arjuna directed it at #Ghatotkacha instead, hoping to spare the lives of innocent people. Ghatotkacha was killed instantly, and his death had a profound impact on his father Bhima, who was devastated by the loss of his son. He is a brave and loyal warrior who sacrificed his life to protect his people.
