The Alamo is a symbol of Texas freedom and independence, but it's also part of the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, as it was first constructed as a Spanish Mission. The Alamo is currently undergoing major renovations, and they have just opened a new collections center which is a state of the art, 2 story, exhibit center. There is an additional charge to visit this space, but the church, the long barrack, and the Alamo grounds can be visited for free. The guides at the Alamo are a wealth of information, so if you are interested in a guided tour to get a better understanding of the history and stories from the property, you can get a 30 min guided tour for $45 which includes admission to the newly constructed Ralston Collections Center. If you are visiting the Alamo and you just have questions, be sure and ask the guides around the property, they love to share their knowledge with you! There is no parking at the Alamo and parking is at a premium in downtown San Antonio. You will need to look for downtown parking options, the Crocket Parking Garage is nearby and reasonably priced.
