War Thunder: The SU-57 is Good

The SU-57 is a 2.3 (BR) premium tank destroyer for the USSR, costing 550 (GE) or available in the War Bond shop rotation. (Acquired via War Bond shop). The SU-57 is an Open-Topped Half-Track tank destroyer equipped with a 57mm cannon and has a crew of 4, 2 in the gun compartment and 2 in the cab. The SU-57 has access to two types of round: • (AP) which has 114mm of penetration at 100m • (APCBC) which has 118mm of penetration at 100m The SU-57 is a modification of the M3 GMC. The M3 GMC 75mm cannon has been replaced with a 57mm cannon, whilst the cannon size has decreased it is actually superior to the M3 GMC as the (APCBC) round used by the M3 GMC has 99mm of penetration at 100m and the SU-57 (APCBC) has 118mm of penetration at 100m. The reduction in cannon size also leads to a quicker reload speed of 5.2 seconds against the M3 GMC which has a reload speed of 7.8 seconds. The SU-57 has an improved horizontal guidance of -26° to 26° this is an improvement on the M3 GMC horizontal guidance of -19° to 21°. The improvements to horizontal guidance are let down by the reduction in vertical guidance as the SU-57 has a vertical guidance of -5° to 15° where as the M3 GMC has a vertical guidance of -10° to 29°. Whilst -5° of vertical guidance is bad and makes navigating terrain difficult it is a feature you will have to get used to if using Soviet vehicles as a large portion of the vehicles in the USSR research tree have -5° of vertical guidance. The SU-57 has a maximum speed of 73km/h (RB) and a reverse speed of 17km/h, this is the same speeds as the M3 GMC. The SU-57 has a tight turning circle which allows for quick changes in direction making it easier to navigate tight spaces. The SU-57 has a maximum armour thickness of 12.7mm and a minimum of 6.35mm this armour makes you extremely vulnerable to machine gun fire so it is best to use your high speed and manoeuvrability to avoid detection.
