【JR西日本】播但線溝口駅の周辺を歩いてみました(2021年11月)
I took a walk around the area surrounding Mizoguchi Station on the JR West Bantan Line. Mizoguchi Station opened in 1898 (Meiji 31) as a station on the Bantan Railway. The station building has been beautifully repainted, but it seems that the station building was renovated in the early Showa period, so I think the original structure is still in use. Currently, it is a station with two platforms and two tracks, but since it seems that freight was handled there until 1962, the space where the tracks used to be remains outside the platform for trains bound for Himeji. The average number of passengers is relatively high on the Bantan Line, ranking third after Himeji Station and Nozato Station. It seems to be slightly higher than the neighboring Fukusaki Station. It seems to have been a peaceful area in the past, but in recent years, residential development has progressed and the number of passengers has increased. The section from Himeji Station to Teramae Station is electrified, and there are relatively many users, mainly students, in the mornings and evenings. However, north of Teramae Station, the scenery becomes mountainous, and the number of trains and passengers decreases. The only train that runs the entire line is the Limited Express Hamakaze, and the service routes diverge at Teramae Station and Fukusaki Station, serving as local transportation.
