With well-prepared sashimi and conch that makes you want to have a drink, this is a long-standing restaurant that feels like a gift to friends who love seafood and alcohol. This is a famous Muchimhoe restaurant in Gyodong with a 53-year tradition. Namdo Sashimi Restaurant is a representative restaurant in Gyodong known for its seasoned raw fish salad. It was run by a grandmother for a long time and has now been passed down to her daughter, continuing the business as the second generation. Although the surrounding landscape has changed significantly—with the nostalgic Dong-A Department Store gone—if you enter the alley of Gyodong Market and walk just a short distance, you will be warmly welcomed by the auntie at Namdo Sashimi Restaurant who always prepares the food here. Namdo Sashimi Restaurant has set out to bridge generations with its single dish of seasoned raw fish salad. In the past, most of the customers were elderly, but thanks to recent social media exposure, a diverse range of age groups—from those in their 20s to those in their 60s and 70s—visit on weekends. Upon entering, you will find standing tables and floor seating tables on the side. Befitting its long history, you can see traces of many visitors and evidence of its features in various media outlets. Business hours are from 10:30 AM to 11:00 PM daily. Please note that the restaurant is closed on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of every month. Here is the menu. We ordered the small size seasoned raw fish salad and the small size assorted raw fish platter. Looking at the portion sizes and taste of the menu items, you can tell this is a traditional sashimi restaurant offering great value for money. First of all, the must-try dish is, of course, the Muchimhoe (spicy seasoned raw fish salad). If you order the small size, you will receive enough food for two people to eat their fill. Although it is not on the menu, I highly recommend ordering the Napjak Mandu (flat dumplings) to try alongside it. The Napjak Mandu costs 4,000 won; upon ordering, they are brought directly from the shop next door, and payment must be made in cash or via bank transfer. If you wrap the refreshing, spicy, sour, and tangy Muchimhoe—which makes your mouth water just by looking at it—in a Napjak Mandu, you will absolutely not regret visiting this restaurant. The chewy conch is delicious when dipped in Chojang (spicy chili paste) and is the perfect accompaniment to Soju. The Assorted Sashimi Platter we ordered features flounder and rockfish as the main ingredients, and in winter, yellowtail loin and belly meat are also included. Please note that even if you order the Assorted Sashimi Platter, you will receive a tasting portion of Muchimhoe and conch, and spicy fish stew is also included as a standard side dish. ... It is actually quite a large establishment, complete with group seating on the second floor. Both seniors and young people seem to visit comfortably. In front of the restaurant, an elderly gentleman is always meticulously preparing the sashimi; even amidst the busyness, his movements are neat and tidy, and you can feel the warmth of a craftsman with decades of experience in his eyes. Here is the menu. Today, we ordered a medium-sized assorted sashimi platter, a small seasoned raw fish platter, and flat dumplings. The seasoned raw fish platter features various seafood such as seared cuttlefish, cuttlefish, squid, and mackerel, all tossed together like fireworks in a sweet and sour dressing with radish, water parsley, and a spicy sauce. The accompanying conch has a chewy texture, and dipping it in the spicy chili sauce makes for a taste that truly calls for soju. The assorted sashimi platter includes halibut, rockfish, and mullet, offering a flavor that everyone, young and old, can enjoy.
