Been waiting for feels like years for this and had a very up and down start! June 16th - up nice and early, starting at the new club stretch. I’ve been coming here in the close season and keeping a good eye on the stretch. Baiting up some spots, i’ve seen so many chub and barbel. Seeing them feeding has been amazing and was itching to fish it. I started off in the swim i’ve been spotting the barbel and gently dropped in a chunk of meat. It didn’t take long for a bite but didn’t set the hook! I changed over to a hair rig with a pellet on, again, not taking long, i hooked on a chub! I could tell it was a chub because they like to come in the margin, when it did, the hook come out!! I couldn’t believe it. Moving down the stretch, theres so many good swims to choose from. I picked a spot where there were lots of overhanging bushes, pre baiting, i dropped my rig in the margin. After picking something up and investigating it, my rod ripped round and was bent in half! Only a barbel can do that and just managed to grab it. Finally, a lovely looking barbel of around 7lb. June 17th - i didnt catch anymore after that 7lb. I was back on the same stretch, seeking revenge after getting bullied by the fish! I was back in the same swim i started, fishing with a hair rig to make sure i could set the hook. After about 20 minutes my rod ripped round again. This was a big scrap, keeping my clutch tight and rod low, making sure it wouldn’t get away. After about 10 minutes of fighting i finally landed it. I didn’t realise how big it really was, weighed it at 12lb 1oz! Great start to the new season. I moved swims and landed another nice barbel of 8lb 4oz. Overall a nice start to the season, even missing a few bites. I have a good feeling about this season, its gonna be busy and really looking forward to posting more videos.
