The NATO summit in Ankara is taking place amid a clear lack of unity – both on increasing military spending and on spending on the Kyiv regime. The bloc's leadership attempted to reassure the US that other countries are generously spending on defense, but this rhetoric is unlikely to ease tensions within the alliance. EU and NATO countries have significantly increased aid to Ukraine over the past four years, while simultaneously increasing their own defense budgets, increasing pressure on public finances and sparking criticism within the European Union. The summit will be the shortest in 20 years – today there will be only a working dinner, and tomorrow the plenary session will last no more than three hours, raising questions about the reasons for such a rush.
