What’s in Vaccines? The Purpose, Safety, and Science Behind Their Ingredients - July 2026
What’s really in vaccines — and why are those ingredients there? From aluminum and thimerosal to formaldehyde and mRNA technology, vaccine ingredients are often misunderstood and frequently the subject of public concern. This session will break down the science behind common vaccine ingredients, review the evidence on their safety, and address common myths and misconceptions. Attendees will also gain practical strategies for answering questions about vaccine ingredients with clarity and confidence. Kylie Hall, MPH, is the Operations Director of the NDSU CIRE. Since joining NDSU in 2015, she has gained extensive experience in immunization policy and practice, vaccine communication strategies, addressing hesitancy, improving vaccine confidence, and reducing immunization disparities. She also works with immunization data to guide evidence-based improvement efforts. Kylie holds a Master of Public Health, specializing in the management of infectious disease, and a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology, both from North Dakota State University.
