Exploring the HUNTER LAKE OFF ROAD TRAIL in RENO NEVADA

The Hunter Lake Trail is one of the best and most well known off road trails in Reno Nevada. The trail is reasonably easy, but not so easy that you wouldn't want some all-terrain tires and ideally a lift kit depending on your truck or car. There are also tight sections of this trail where you will scrape your paint a bit, it is unavoidable. Today we are completing the trail in a 2006 Jeep Wrangler (TJ) and a 2009 Toyota Tacoma. You can start at the Garson Road side, near Cabela's or start in the Caughlin Ranch area. This trail has incredible scenery, the lower elevation sections are in the desert and as you climb the mounties you get into a forest, where Hunter Lake itself is. The trail is 21.5 miles long start to finish. The low point of the trail is at 4,926 feet in elevation, and the peak is 8,789 feet in elevation, which is a difference of 3,863.
