We, Humanity Bangladesh, came across an incredible incident in the Rajshahi/Nator region. A mentally unstable homeless man had been wandering across almost every railway station and street of Bangladesh for the last 13 years — his entire body was covered in heavy iron chains, numerous locks, and iron shackles on his hands and feet. It looked as if he was living a life of imprisonment in iron chains. We and the local people tried to untie his chains. At first, he refused to let anyone touch his chains, but after convincing us, he agreed. We used local tools but the iron shackles were so thick that normal equipment couldn’t cut them. Later, we cut the iron locks on his hands and neck with an electrician’s heavy-duty electric machine. Then we cut his hair, dressed him in new clothes, provided him with food, and gave him some cash reward. Finally, he told us: “I was in chains for 13 years, no one ever called me or helped me. But today, you called me, freed me, gave me new clothes and food — you acted like a believer.
