BHA or salicylic acid peels . Salicylic acid is also known as beta hydroxy acid. This skin acid is a useful ingredient for treating acne including blackhead acne, pimples, papules, as well as mild cystic acne. Salicylic acid it works as an anti-inflammatory in lower concentrations whilst in higher concentrations it acts as a chemical exfoliant. . Uses of salicylic acid can extend to the management of certain skin conditions including acne, psoriasis, certain forms of dermatitis, keratosis Pilaris, as well as sun damage. Our clinicians employ salicylic acid peels primarily in concentrations ranging from 8 to 30%. . The peel process first starts with a cleanse of your skin to remove any residual sunscreen make up & oil. We then apply salicylic acid using the brush. The salicylic acid peel is then left for approximately 2 to 4 minutes. During this time you may feel some slight stinging however the entire procedure is comfortable. In some patients we do expect some mild redness after the peel however this will resolve within a few hours. If the concentrations are higher than 15%, you may get some skin peeling for approximately 48 hours after the procedure. You should avoid your active skincare topicals including retinol, ascorbic acid, & at-home salicylic acid washes. It is important that you keep out of direct sunlight for 4 to 6 days post peeling. Most patients would benefit from a series of between 2 to 4 chemical peels space approximately 2 to 3 weeks apart. . In some cases your clinician may initiate other topicals and procedures to treat your acne. Frequently dermatologist may prescribe topical retinoids such as adapalene, trifarotene, or tretinoin. If your acne is inflammatory they might also advise you to undertake vascular laser treatments or low-level laser emitting diode treatment to reduce inflammation. .
