Harry James and His Orchestra with Helen Forrest - I Don't Want to Walk Without You (1942)

Charted at #2 in February 1942. Original Billboard review: "The strings providing a superb setting, the James band gives lush treatment to the ballad hit on the A side. It's from the "Sweater Girl" picture, and while it has already attracted a great deal of attention on the waxes, it has never been offered quite as well as in this version featuring Harry's trumpet and Helen Forrest's chanting. Taken at a slow tempo, the maestro's open horn intorduces the theme for half chorus, the strings providing rich tonal warmth in the background, continuing their weaving for the remainder of the side, as Miss Forrest sings the verse and chorus. Her chanting falls like balm on the ears". Also #9 for Bing Crosby in April 1942, #15 for Dinah Shore in March 1942, #79 for Phyllis McGuire in December 1964 (#13 Adult Contemporary), #121 (bubbling under the Hot 100) for Julius Wechter and the Baja Marimba Band in July 1969 (#21 Adult Contemporary) and #36 for Barry Manilow in April 1980 (#2 Adult Contemporary). Also recorded by Connie Francis. From the movie, "Sweater Girl". Written by Jule Styne and Frank Loesser. B-side is "B-19".
