microbit Clocks & Timers: Part 1 - Clock

These two videos were produced for the Parramatta Library for International Day for People with Disabilities. The presentation is part of a workshop called "microbit Timers for Autistic Teens". In this video part 1, I introduce the theme of timers and clocks as part of a broader context where schedules are used. I introduce the microbit and the software tool called Makecode. Your first timer is very simple and uses three numerical variables to track time and show it on a scrolling display on microbit. It has a couple of problems and the first correction is to improve the accuracy of the clock using a software RTC (Real Time Clock). Students are given a challenge - make a clock that show hours and minutes in the microbit LEDs without scrolling. This results in a Binary Clock using BCD (Binary Coded Decimal) numbers for showing "Hrs:Mins". In the next video we show how we can emulate the famous "Timer Timer" on microbit and also show some of the demos from the workshop.
