We're greeted at the door by the hosts—a large family with five children and 14 grandchildren! Before we've even taken off our shoes, the neighbors have already arrived—because that's how it's done here: cooking together, singing together, living together. We all head out to the garden to cook a hearty stew of two types of meat over the fire. There's a small pond nearby, and we laughed as we tried to catch fish... but nothing came of it except splashes and a good mood! Meanwhile, in the kitchen, they're already kneading the dough for Tatar baursaks—the kind my grandmother used to bake. We gather viburnum berries from the garden, and now the fragrant balish is ready for dinner. And of course, what would we do without the accordion? Even feeding the chickens is more fun with the heartfelt Tatar songs that everyone has known since infancy. At the end of the day, a table groaning with treats awaits us: everything we've prepared, everything we've found in the garden, everything we've poured our hearts into.
