Land of OZ: Immersive Character Breakfast

NAS Whiting Field’s Community Recreation Program hosted a Land of Oz experience followed by a Breakfast. From black and white to living color, patrons experienced the Wonderful World of Oz. A cyclone traveled all the way from the Kansas, to beautiful Land of Oz and landed in Whiting Field, bringing Dorothy with it. All MWR patrons had the opportunity to experience the Land of Oz through interactive activities and walk the Yellow Brick Road with Dorothy and her friends. We are hiring paid actors from the local theater to play the famous Oz characters (Dorothy, Tin Man, The Lion, Scarecrow, Glenda the good witch). Dorothy will take patrons on a treasure hunt for Toto, which will start them on a quest to the Land of Oz. Along the way they will run into a Scarecrow who will need help getting a brain. The Scarecrow will help them complete a brain game activity such as a puzzle. Each patron will earn a ‘Smarty-pants’ badge before moving forward. Following their encounter with the Scarecrow, patrons will meet a Tin Man who needs a heart. The Tin Man will help participants write down one act of kindness that they want to complete this week in celebration of Earth Day. The Tin Man will help them place their heart on a kindness wall, decorated as a forest. The activity that they will do in this room is also pin the heart on the Tin Man. Patrons will have one more special character to meet and that is the Cowardly Lion. The Cowardly Lion then took them on an adventurous course to test their courage. Additional character such as the Wicked Witch and Mr. Oz will also be present and meet during their journey through Oz. Mr. Oz will teach the kids how to use their shoes to go home. We are encouraging participants to dress in theme as their favorite Wizard of Oz character.
