Yi fights a claw machine | Yanlao Boss fight | Nine Sols
In this video, I show how to beat Yanlao using a safe and consistent strategy built around parries, fully charged Talisman Explosions, and burst damage. This guide covers both phases, the moving laser in Phase 2, robot dash parry timing, the crosshair claw mechanic, and the best times to use arrows. If you're looking for a Yanlao boss guide or how to beat Yanlao, this walkthrough explains the safest strategy to defeat the boss with reliable damage windows. HOW TO BEAT YANLAO - BOSS GUIDE / TIPS Yanlao is one of the toughest boss fights because it rewards patience, precise parries, and knowing when to maximize your burst damage. Instead of attacking whenever possible, the safest strategy is to build up 3 Talisman Charges through successful parries, then unleash a fully powered Talisman Explosion during your damage windows. BUILD 3 TALISMAN CHARGES FIRST The three circles below your health bar represent your Talisman Charges. While it's tempting to use them as soon as you get one, you'll deal much more damage by saving up all 3 charges before attaching the Talisman Explosion. Tips: Focus on parrying Yanlao's attacks. Build all 3 Talisman Charges before using them. Save your fully charged Talisman Explosion for the best damage windows. Don't rush damage—patience pays off. PHASE 1 - LEARN THE PATTERNS Phase 1 is all about learning Yanlao's attacks and building Talisman Charges safely through parries. Tips: Stay patient and react to each attack. Prioritize successful parries over aggressive attacks. Dodge when necessary, but look for every safe parry opportunity. Once you have 3 charges, attach your Talisman Explosion for maximum burst damage. PHASE 2 - FASTER ATTACKS & MOVING LASER In Phase 2, Yanlao becomes much more aggressive. His attacks speed up, and a new laser sweeps across the arena from side to side. Tips: Dash through the moving laser instead of trying to outrun it. Keep watching Yanlao while avoiding the laser. Be ready for the robot dash, as this attack should be parried whenever possible. Don't let the laser distract you from the robot's attacks. ROBOT DASH PARRY One of Yanlao's strongest attacks is the robot dash. Rather than avoiding it every time, use it as an opportunity to gain Talisman Charges. Tips: Learn the timing of the dash. Parry consistently to build all 3 charges. Stay calm and don't panic because of the Phase 2 laser. CROSSHAIR MECHANIC During the fight, crosshairs will appear on screen. Instead of avoiding them, lure the targeting reticle onto the mechanical claw. Once the claw is targeted, it will be shot down, creating one of the biggest damage opportunities in the fight. Tips: Move so the crosshair locks onto the claw. Wait for it to be destroyed. Immediately punish while it's down. ARROW BURST DAMAGE After the claw falls, use your arrows to deal massive burst damage while Yanlao is vulnerable. This creates the ideal damage cycle: Parry → Build 3 Talisman Charges → Attach Talisman Explosion → Destroy the Claw → Use Arrows → Repeat. GENERAL STRATEGY TO BEAT YANLAO Stay patient throughout the fight. Build all 3 Talisman Charges before using them. Use parries as your primary way to generate damage. Save Talisman Explosions for maximum value. Dash through the sweeping laser in Phase 2. Parry the robot dash whenever possible. Use the crosshairs to shoot down the claw. Fire your arrows while the claw is down for huge burst damage. Repeat the cycle until Yanlao is defeated. Yanlao is a fight built around patience and resource management. By consistently parrying to build 3 Talisman Charges, using fully powered Talisman Explosions, dashing through the Phase 2 laser, parrying the robot dash, and taking advantage of the claw mechanic with arrows, you'll defeat Yanlao safely and consistently.
