When Peter Kronberger moved to Norway seven years ago, initially just for a year, he probably had no idea it would become his new home. Among the fjords around Stavanger, he not only found a place to live, but also the perfect conditions to gradually develop into one of Austria's strongest ultra-cyclists. In conversation with Straps and Flo, Peter talks about his beginnings on the trails around Grünberg, his first years of triathlon, and his early adventures in the Race Around Austria. His big breakthrough finally came at the 2024 Transcontinental Race. With extensive preparation, but without much international racing experience, he was among the frontrunners right from the start. But the TCR also showed its unforgiving side: On a notorious gravel section in Albania, several mechanical problems derailed all his plans. With an empty spare parts inventory, improvised repairs, and a healthy dose of frustration, Peter nevertheless battled his way through the race. That he can not only ride hard but also think strategically was proven shortly afterward at the Race Across East Germany. There, he won with meticulous preparation, perfect equipment planning, and impressive efficiency that even amazed the organizers and competitors. Of course, Norway is also a topic: endless summer days, dark winters, harsh weather, excellent gravel, and the unique features that await participants in this year's Transcontinental Race.
