Animal rights group opposes proposed five-year extension of wolf kill program

British Columbia is considering extending its wolf reduction program for another five years, drawing criticism from animal rights group The Fur-Bearers. The organization says more than 2,000 wolves have been killed since the program began a decade ago and questions the humaneness of aerial hunting methods. The province says the program has helped increase several threatened caribou herds and that predator control measures are guided by scientific advice. Minister Randene Neill says she is open to looking into an audit of the program, with a decision on its future expected this fall. Paul Johnson reports.
