Prof. Dr. M. Amjad Hossain Arthroplasty & Trauma Surgeon Chief Consultant Dept. of orthopaedic surgery Labaid Specialized Hospital Dhanmondi, Dhaka-1205. Former Professor & Head, Orthopaedic Surgery, Dhaka Medical College, Dhaka Having graduated from Medicine in 1978, Prof. Dr. M. Amjad Hossain has pursued his career in the field of orthopedics and completed his MS from National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedic Rehabilitation, University of Dhaka in 1986. Throughout life, he has relentlessly devoted his time and efforts to serve the orthopedic department of various institutions. With the growing concern of the world, he has started working on the treatment of osteoporosis for elderly population and devoted himself to establish arthroplasty surgery in Rheumatoid, Osteoporosis and Degenerative arthritis affecting and disabling patients. He had pursued specialized foreign fellowship in the field of Joint Replacement and had been trained extensively at various centre. Recently he has been trained in USA; Particularly with Prof. C.S Ranawat at Hospital for Special Surgery at Newyork, who is the designer & also famous Hip & Knee surgeon of the world. He has also trained himself in Re-constructive Hand & Trauma Surgery. He has been the author of many publications/articles published in different journals. He is the member of AAOS (American Association of Orthopedic Surgeons), SICOT, BJD and member of Asia Pacific arthroplasty society. Of particular note, he actively took part in the War of Liberation in 1971 and served for the treatment of war injured and disabled freedom fighters as an honorary adviser to Bangladesh Freedom Fighter Welfare Trust. His sense of social responsibilities has inspired him to build Amana Baki Residential Model School, under AB Foundation, Chirirbandar in Dinajpur. The performance of the school has already drawn the attention of all concerned in that region. With the co-operation of progressive sectors, he has dedicated his passions and thoughts under the shadow of AB foundation to usher the new hope in this underprivileged portion of our society. Lots of trainings on the update issues and experience exchange with the leading orthopedic fellows of many countries; notably, USA, Germany, Singapore, Australia and India has definitely added the edge of his professional excellence today, Professor Amjad Hossain is one of the leading opinion molders in the arena of Total Hip & Knee Arthroplasty in Bangladesh and is helping severely crippled patients relived from pain and live an active, independent and happy life.
